One of these two cryptos already crossed the million-dollar threshold for a specific holding size this year, and the other would need a price that exceeds every company on Earth combined. Figuring out which is which changes everything about a…

XRP (CRYPTO:XRP) trades at $1.38 as of September 10, 2026, and Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) trades at $2,469 the same day. At those prices, one million dollars of XRP is 724,638 coins and one million dollars of Ethereum is 405 coins.
The XRP price is up 36% and Ethereum 31.16% over the 30 days to September 10. Both are still down for 2026, XRP by 24.43% and Ethereum by 16.86%. So which coin could make you a millionaire by 2028?
A Million Dollars Is 724,638 XRP or 405 Ethereum
An ordinary buyer would need to own 724,638 XRP or 405 Ethereum outright to be worth a million dollars today. A patient buyer could plausibly accumulate 724,638 XRP over years of steady buying. Nobody accumulates 405 Ethereum the same way, because that stake already costs about a million dollars up front.
Roughly 725,000 XRP would take commitment through several down years to build, but the count is realistically within reach. It’s the number along-term buyercan grow toward with weekly or monthly buys, one payday at a time.
The Ethereum count works differently, because a buyer who already holds 405 coins is a millionaire in Ethereum terms, so the 2028 question changes shape entirely. A buyer who doesn’t hold that many would have to spend a million dollars on Ethereum at the current price of $2,469, which defeats the point of a 2028 target.
10,000 XRP Needs $100 a Coin, 100 Ethereum Needs $10,000
Fourround holdingscome up most often, and each reaches a million dollars at a different unit price. Those four are 10,000 XRP, 100,000 XRP, 100 Ethereum and 400 Ethereum.
A 10,000-XRP holding reaches a million at $100 a coin, which is 72.5 times the September 10, 2026 price. A 100,000-XRP holding reaches it at $10 a coin, 7.25 times the same price. In Ethereum the counts drop and the required unit price climbs, so a 100-Ethereum holding reaches a million at $10,000 a coin, 4 times the September 10 price, and a 400-Ethereum holding reaches it at $2,500.
The $2,500 threshold has already been met, because Ethereum closed above it on five days between August 21 and September 6, 2026, peaking at $2,514.97 on August 21, which valued 400 coins at $1,005,988. A 400-coin holder has already had the price move and only needs the coins.
An XRP holder has the opposite problem, because 10,000 coins is an ordinary stake and XRP has never traded near $100. At $100 a coin,XRP’s market capitalisationwould reach $6.1 trillion, more than Apple, Microsoft and Nvidia combined.
The Multiples Differ Because the Unit Prices Do
XRP’s all-time high is $3.84, set in January 2018, and XRP would need 178% from $1.38 to reach it, or 2.78 times the current price. Ethereum’s all-time high is about $4,950, set in August 2025, and Ethereum would need 100.5% to reach it.
The million-dollar thresholds are much further out, with $100 for XRP at 26 times its all-time high and $10,000 for Ethereum at about twice its record. Both networks could grow at similar rates through 2028 and still produce very different multiples, because one coin trades at $1.38 and the other at $2,469.35.
Which of XRP or Ethereum Would Make You a Millionaire by 2028?
Ethereum could reach a million on the smaller multiple, since a 100-coin holding needs 4 times the current price and a 400-coin holding was already worth more than a million on five days in August and September. XRP could reach a million valuation only on the larger multiple, because a 10,000-coin holding needs $100 a coin, and that is 26 times its record price set in January 2018.
Asked on September 10, 2026, ChatGPT put XRP at $4.75 by September 2028, and at that price, one million dollars of XRP is 210,526 coins rather than 724,638. So the answer depends on which stake a reader already holds, and 405 Ethereum is the only one of the four holdings that has crossed a million this year already.
