    Jon Ossoff
stated on August 16, 2026 in a speech:
    ByBen Brasch
    September 2, 2026

Is Georgia’s Mike Collins one of the most active crypto traders in Congress?

    If your time is short

    • U.S. Rep. Mike Collinstraded cryptocurrency about a dozen times in 2025, more than most other members of Congress, based on news reports of the most active crypto traders and public disclosures.
    • Few members of Congress have reported crypto holdings.

U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., who is trying to keep his seat in the midterm elections, criticized his Republican opponent, Rep. Mike Collins, saying he has sometimes not properly disclosed some of his cryptocurrency trades. The digital currencies have fewer regulations than traditional banking or stock trading and Congress is grappling with what to allow.

“Not a lot of people know this, but Congressman Mike Collins is literally one of the most active crypto traders in the entire Congress, House or Senate … But Mike Collins also repeatedly broke the law hiding his crypto trading,” Ossoffsaidduring an Aug. 16 rally in Atlanta.

For this fact-check, we’re examining whether Collins is among Congress’ most active crypto traders.

Collins traded crypto about a dozen times in 2025, more than most other members of Congress, according to news reports of the most active crypto traders and public disclosures. Some news outlets have described Collins as a “prolific” crypto trader, and he has written for years about his affinity for the currency.

Collinspostedon X in December 2021 that he has been “doing crypto” since 2017, and both of his sons have gotten into crypto since. “We’re fans to say the least,” the post said. It was about that time, before Collins was elected to Congress, that The Wall Street Journalreportedthat nine House members had cryptocurrency. Morecurrent reportingsuggests that crypto investment remains relatively rare among members of Congress.

The exact amount of cryptocurrency Collins has purchased isn’t clear from the public record because the law does not require that he specify it. Collins’ campaign did not respond to a request for comment

The Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge Act lays out how lawmakers must report crypto purchases greater than $1,000, directing that they only report them in ranges — for example, $1,001 to $15,000 or $50,001 to $100,000. So, Collins could have made additional purchases below that minimum threshold that are not disclosed.

    Ossoff’s campaign declined to comment.

What is cryptocurrency, and how often did Collins trade it?

Cryptocurrency is a digital asset purchased with real money that is traded on blockchain technology without using a bank as an intermediary

Collins reported to the House clerk that he initiated about a dozen crypto trades in 2025,accordingto House financial disclosure records.

That’s enough to be considered an active trader in the view of Scott Greytak, deputy executive director of Transparency International U.S., an anti-corruption advocacy group.

Greytak said there’s no law that determines how many trades makes someone an investor versus a trader, “but repeatedly buying and selling an asset over the course of the year is very different from simply owning crypto and holding it.”

He said crypto differs from stocks because it’s avolatile fieldwith values that can easily rise and fall depending upon what bills are coming up for a vote.

In December 2025, the crypto blog Finboldlistedthree members of Congress who made the most money from crypto that year. One was Collins, in part because he made multiple purchases of Ethereum (the second most valuable cryptocurrency after Bitcoin) worth tens of thousands of dollars.

The Campaign Legal Center, a group focused on government ethics and transparency, reportedin September — using 2023 and 2024 federal financial disclosure data — that Collins was theCongress member who had traded the third-most crypto.

Collins trades crypto directly and has “the most extensive record” of doing so among members of Congress, crypto blog CoinDeskwrotein a December 2024 article headlined “Congress’ Most Prolific Crypto Trader Is a Georgia Trucking Operator.”

Collins also invested in memecoins (currencies that serve as irony-coded jokes and money) such as“Ski Mask Dog”in late 2024 and early 2025. The memecoin features a dog wearing a ski mask.

“Washington and Wall Street have stigmatized emerging technology in the crypto ecosystem for far too long, and it’s about time that we start treating this industry with the respect it deserves,”  Collins told the crypto blogDecryptin 2024 when asked why he purchased Ski Mask Dog.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution recentlyanalyzedCollins’ crypto activity since he took office in January 2023. It found his cumulative net crypto spending is between $68,026 and $495,000, with current holdings ranging from $118,005 to $345,000.

    Our ruling

Ossoff said Collins “is literally one of the most active crypto traders in the entire Congress, House or Senate.”

Collinstraded cryptocurrency about a dozen times in 2025, more than most other members of Congress.

A crypto blog listed Collins as one of three members of Congress who made the most money from the currency in 2025. Another crypto publication wrote in 2024 that Collins has “the most extensive record” among members of Congress of trading crypto directly.

A nonprofit group used 2023 and 2024 federal financial disclosure data to determine that Collins was the Congress member who had traded the third-most crypto.

    We rate Ossoff’s statement True.
