Tron founder Justin Sun and BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes have offered opposing views on whether artificial intelligence and quantum computing pose a security threat to Bitcoin, Bitcoin.com reported.
Sun said advances in AI-driven mathematical problem-solving could allow even conventional computers, not just quantum machines, to break current cryptographic systems. Sun argued Bitcoin’s slow consensus process makes it virtually impossible to upgrade the network’s security architecture within two years, adding that the cryptocurrency industry and spot Bitcoin ETF investors are not adequately pricing in the risk.
Hayes, by contrast, said there is no reason to sell BTC over concerns about quantum computing. Hayes argued investors can avoid addresses with exposed public keys and use newer signature methods, adding that if Bitcoin survives regardless of whether the threat is real, the issue is ultimately meaningless.
