The number of cryptocurrencies delisted from South Korea’s five major won-based exchanges nearly tripled in the first nine months from a year earlier, while 41 tokens were either delisted or flagged in a single day on Oct. 16, the Seoul Economic Daily exclusively reported.
According to the outlet, an analysis of trading support data from DAXA, a joint consultative body of digital asset exchanges, showed 103 cryptocurrencies were removed from trading support lists through the third quarter, up about 2.6 times from 40 a year earlier. The tally excludes overlap among exchanges and confirmed token rebrandings. Industry participants said South Korean exchanges need to better separate stronger projects from weaker ones, regardless of market conditions, as indiscriminate listings had been widespread, according to the report.
