    Forecast Trend Report by Period

Ethereum and Base have failed to establish a common account abstraction standard, leaving the two networks to continue developing the technology separately.

Cointelegraph reported on September 15 that talks to unify account abstraction standards between Ethereum and Base ultimately collapsed last week. Account abstraction is a technology that allows transaction approval methods and fee payment rules to be set programmatically.

Derek Chiang, a co-author of Ethereum Improvement Proposal EIP-8141 and a founding member and researcher at Ethlabs, wrote on X that the two sides split after each chain prioritized its own core goals over an interoperability standard. He added that the burden has now been passed on to wallet developers.

As a result, wallet developers must support different transaction formats across the two networks to provide a consistent user experience. Ethereum is pushing frame transactions based on EIP-8141 as a central feature of its next upgrade, Hegotá. It also plans to introduce native account abstraction and map out a transition path to quantum-resistant authentication. Base, meanwhile, is developing native account abstraction through a Keystore based on EIP-8130, which is currently running on a developer testnet.

Chiang said the split does not necessarily point to a negative outcome. In his view, Ethereum and Base can now advance account abstraction more freely in line with their respective visions. He said the underlying cause of the breakdown was the difference in priorities between the two chains. Layer 1 networks focus on censorship resistance, open- Layer 2 networks are more suited to standards such as EIP-8130

Ethereum developers are reviewing plans to implement the Hegotá upgrade after the end of 2026. Before that, the Glamsterdam upgrade is slated for the second half of 2026 on mainnet That upgrade is aimed at improving scalability, strengthening Layer 1 and enhancing network usability
