Bitcoin and Ethereum both jumped 5% today, and the stocks built on top of them moved at twice that speed. Here is what is driving the leverage stack and whether the momentum has anywhere left to go.

Crypto treasury stocks are outrunning a firmer tape at midday. The iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (NASDAQ:IBIT) is up 5% to $45.88, while the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSEARCA:SPY) is up 1% to $772.97. The IBIT ETF is moving much faster than the S&P 500, which is the setup that puts leveraged cryptocurrency-treasury names in motion.
Strategy (NASDAQ:MSTR | MSTR Price Prediction) stock is up 14% to $140.33, with the largest corporate Bitcoin holder amplifying the move in its balance-sheet asset. Meanwhile, Bitmine Immersion Technologies (NYSE:BMNR) stock is climbing 12% to $25.84, tracking a firmer bid in Ethereum. Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) trades at $80,986.86, and Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) trades at $2,493.29; both are up 5% over the past 24 hours.
Treasury Trade Reasserts Itself
Neither company posted a headline of its own to justify a double-digit day. The session’s move is the treasury trade doing what it does when the assets on the balance sheet catch a bid. Strategy holds Bitcoin, Bitmine holds Ethereum, and each stock carries a layer of leverage on top of the coin it owns.
Strategy’s most recent quarter framed the setup. Q2 2026 results reported on July 30 showed the company grew its Bitcoin position by 11% to 846,000 coins, funded largely by $8.41 billion in ATM proceeds during the quarter. Bitmine’s own treasury updates put its Ethereum holdings above 5.9 million tokens, with total crypto and cash holdings of $15.6 billion as of August 31, giving it what the company describes as the largest Ethereum treasury in the market.
Same Trade, Different Coins
The distinction between the two names is which coin sits behind the ticker. Strategy carried its Bitcoin at $49.7 billion versus a $63.9 billion cost basis at the end of Q2, and Strategy stock has become the market’s most liquid instrument for expressing a leveraged Bitcoin view. The company’s capital stack now includes $6.7 billion of convertible notes and a growing pile of preferred equity, with the STRC preferred dividend rate stepped up to 12% annualized over the summer.
Bitmine’s angle is Ethereum, and its stated target is owning 5% of all ETH outstanding. Chairman Thomas Lee has flagged the Made-in-America Validator Network, a staking infrastructure initiative expected to go live in Q1 2026 that would let the company put its Ethereum to work rather than simply hold it. On the fiscal 2025 year that ended August 31, 2025, Bitmine reported net income of $328.16 million and fully diluted EPS of $13.39, a reversal from the prior-year loss.
Session Move vs. Month vs. Year
The past-month and year to date (YTD) figures are the real story. Strategy stock was up 30% over the past month through the prior close and was still down 19% YTD, while Bitmine stock was up 32% over the same span and was down 15% YTD. The Bitcoin fund shows the same shape, up 21% over the past month with its year-to-date reading still in the red.
| Ticker | Session | Past Month |
|---|---|---|
| MSTR | up 14% | up 30% |
| BMNR | up 12% | up 32% |
| IBIT | up 5% | up 21% |
Two names moving together, with the fund moving less than either of them and the broad market moving least of all, is the leverage stack visible in a single session. It’s the same math that made the drawdown earlier in the year larger than the index’s, and it’s the reason double-digit gains here extend a recovery from a deep hole rather than establish new ground.
What to Watch Next
Traders can watch for whether the coin bid holds into the close, since the direction of Bitcoin and Ethereum in the final hour tends to set the opening posture for both treasury names. Strategy’s next scheduled catalyst is another quarterly Bitcoin holdings update, and Bitmine has been publishing weekly treasury updates that give a running read on Ethereum accumulation.
Investors sizing into crypto treasury names should scale their exposure to what they’re willing to wear on a bad day. A month of recovery of this size implies the drawdown that preceded it was larger still, and the same leverage that lifts these tickers on a green session cuts the other way when the coins roll over. That symmetry is the entire pitch, and it’s the entire risk (we wrote a free playbook on speculating with just 5% of a portfolio, with the sizing rules that keep it from hurting, here).
