Bitcoin has stalled at the same price ceiling four times in two weeks, and a pair of high-stakes government decisions lands within nine days. What happens next depends on which side blinks first.

TheBitcoin(CRYPTO:BTC) price trades at $79,863 as of September 7, 2026, just under the $80,000 mark after a bounce from its August 7 low. The coin has gained 23.15% since then, and it’s up 2.89% in the seven days to September 7. Bitcoin reached $82,283 on September 3, 2026 before sellers pushed it back into the low $79,000s.

So $82,000 is the level this rally keeps failing at. Would Bitcoin break it in September 2026?

Bitcoin Has Failed at the Low $82,000s Four Times Since August 25

Resistance is a price level where sellers have repeatedly stopped an advance, and the low $82,000s have done exactly that. The Bitcoin price reached $82,283 on September 3 and closed the day at $81,264, then sellers pushed it back again on September 4 after a high of $81,438. The coin also failed at $81,480 on August 28, 2026, and at $81,265 on August 25, 2026.

However, Bitcoin is still down 10% since January 1 from $88,764, and down 27.49% over the twelve months to September 7 from $110,213. So even a break above $82,000 would leave the coin below where it started the year.

The Senate Votes on the CLARITY Act on September 15

The next step for theCLARITY Actis a scheduled procedural vote on September 15 to invoke cloture, which is the Senate step that decides whether to take up the bill and requires 60 votes. No party holds 60 Senate seats, so cloture requires cross-party support. And cloture only limits debate; it doesn’t pass the bill, which still needs a floor vote after.

Polymarket prices the bill being signed into law in 2026 at about 18%, down from 90% in February.

The Fed Decides Rates on September 16

TheFed’s September policy decisioncomes on September 16, the day after the Senate vote. The federal funds target range is 3.50% to 3.75% as of September 7, 2026, and has been unchanged since December 2025.

However, strong August jobs dataon September 4, 2026 has strengthened the argument for a hike, and President Trump is pressuring Fed Chair Kevin Warsh as a rate hike looms. On inflation, core PCE, the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge that strips out food and energy, rose 3.3% in the twelve months to July 2026, against a 2% target.

So a hike would push bond yields higher, and when a government bond pays close to 5%, some savers move money out of a coin that pays nothing.

Why the Odds of a Break Are Low

Our view is that a break above $82,000 that holds through September 2026 has low odds, because three things would have to go right in the space of nine days. Bitcoin would need a daily close above $82,283, the September 3 high, since anything below that is inside the zone where sellers have stopped it four times.

That close would then need to survive the Senate vote on September 15, and the Fed decision on September 16 would need to be a hold. Polymarket has the bill at 18%, and traders had a September hike at 60% on September 3, so neither event is close to even odds.

However, Bitcoin climbed back above its 50-week moving average on September 3, which Galaxy Digital put at $81,041. A moving average is the average closing price over a window, and the 50-week line is one traders use to separate a longer uptrend from a longer downtrend, so Bitcoin is above it for the first time since May.

So if you hold Bitcoin, a daily close above $82,283 before the Fed decision would change the odds, and nothing below it does. If cloture fails and the Fed hikes, Bitcoin could fall back to the $77,307 it closed at on September 2, 2026, and the $75,538 low from August 23 would be the next level below that.
