The prices of major cryptocurrencies, including <a href="https://xpertsstudio.com/bitcoin-etfs-draw-517m-in-largest-one/” title=”Bitcoin ETFs draw $517M in largest one”>Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP, are surging today.
The upward movement is being cheered by investors in the digital tokens, which have, until recently, experienced a pretty horrendous 2026. But over the last 24 hours, things have finally begun to turn around.
As of the time of this writing, Bitcoin is up nearly 11.5% in the past day, Ethereum is up more than 19%, and XRP is up more than 15%. Other coins are also seeing significant upward swings.
But why are crypto prices surging today? Here are two of the likely biggest factors impacting the crypto markets.
U.S. Treasury doubles its bond buyback program
Yesterday, the U.S. Treasury announced plans to double portions of its bond buyback program. As the Treasury will now buy back at least $4 billion worth of 10- to 30-year Treasury bonds per operation instead of $2 billion
The increased bond buyback is meant to boost market liquidity, which could help spur the economy, which is facing significant headwinds from financial pressures like inflation and geopolitical pressures like the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran.
But when market liquidity increases, it also helps to boost stocks and crypto markets.
