BIS Tests XRP Ledger as Ripple CEO Highlights XRPL Strengths

The XRP community is drawing fresh attention to the XRP Ledger (XRPL) after the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) put the blockchain network to the test, prompting a response from Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse.

Garlinghouse suggested that the BIS exploring the XRP Ledger should not come as a major surprise, pointing to the network’s established capabilities and characteristics that could make it suitable for institutional applications.

In his reaction, the Ripple CEO questioned whether the development was unexpected given XRPL’s ability to meet key requirements for an efficient blockchain network. He highlighted low transaction fees, fast settlement and the ledger’s proven operating history as three important features supporting its potential use in financial infrastructure.

Networks capable of providing quick transactions at relatively low costs could play a role as organizations experiment with blockchain-based systems.

While the BIS test does not by itself represent broader institutional adoption of XRP or the XRP Ledger, it places XRPL under additional scrutiny from one of the world’s most prominent international financial institutions.

For Ripple and the XRP community, the experiment offers another opportunity to demonstrate the XRP Ledger’s capabilities in an institutional setting. Garlinghouse views the BIS initiative as consistent with XRPL’s strengths, particularly its speed, low fees and operational track record, as interest in blockchain-based financial infrastructure continues to expand.
