Strategy Raises $2B From MSTR With Bitcoin Buying On Hold

Strategy raised about $2 billion through MSTR share sales last week, kept its Bitcoin(BTC) holdings unchanged and created a $1.59 billion cash pool for future treasury needs.

Strategy Liquidity

Strategy sold 18,261,118 MSTR shares from Aug. 17 through Aug. 23, generating $2.0065 billion in net proceeds, according to an Aug. 24 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company made no Bitcoin purchases or sales during the period.

Of the proceeds, $136.4 million funded repurchases of STRC preferred stock, while $300 million increased Strategy’s existing USD Reserve to $5.10 billion. The remaining $1.59 billion established a separate account called USD Cash.

Strategy described USD Cash as “a separately designated pool of U.S. dollar liquidity” that can support Bitcoin purchases, dividends, debt payments, securities repurchases and other treasury purposes. The company said the account gives management more flexibility to react to changing market conditions.

Bitcoin Outlook

Strategy still owns 840,447 BTC, acquired for about $63.36 billion at an average price of $75,385 per Bitcoin, including fees and expenses. That position represents about 4% of Bitcoin’s fixed 21 million supply cap.

Matt Cole, CEO of Strive, said Sunday he has “very strong” conviction that the Bitcoin bear market has ended, pointing to BTC strength against both the dollar and gold. Bernstein analysts also linked last week’s record Bitcoin rally to increased Treasury bond buybacks and broader liquidity conditions.

Analysts led by Gautam Chhugani wrote that “bitcoin historically has had a positive reaction to liquidity expansion,” and expect Strategy to resume purchases as STRC moves closer to its $100 nominal value. STRC was trading around $96.43 in the report.

The liquidity shift follows a period when Strategy reduced its Bitcoin position modestly and expanded its Digital Credit Capital Framework to support dividends, interest payments and securities repurchases. Earlier in August, the company sold about 0.8% of its Bitcoin holdings while strengthening cash reserves, marking a temporary break from its long-running accumulation pattern.
