Strategy disclosed Monday the creation of a new cash reserve called USD Cash, which currently holds $1.59 billion and can be deployed to buy <a href="https://xpertsstudio.com/bitcoin-soars-nears-80k-after-posting-largest-weekly-gain-in-its-history/” title=”Bitcoin soars, nears $80K after posting largest weekly gain in its history”>bitcoin, fund preferred-stock dividends and debt payments, repurchase securities, or cover other corporate expenses, the company said.
Strategy’s existing reserve, now at $5.1 billion, is restricted to covering preferred-stock dividend obligations and interest on the company’s outstanding debt; board approval is required before the funds can be directed anywhere else, the company said. The initial reserve was part of a capital management framework Strategy unveiled in June
Strategy’s last bitcoin acquisition dates to the seven-day period ending June 22, and a Monday filing confirmed no purchases or sales occurred in the week through Sunday. The company’s total bitcoin holdings are valued at roughly $70 billion
Shares climbed as much as 3% to $122.79 when markets opened Monday, though the stock remains down roughly 66% over the trailing twelve months.
The new cash pool follows a difficult stretch for Strategy. The company <a href="https://qz.com/strategy-8-billion-loss-bitcoin-price-decline-073126″ rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>reported a net loss of $8.22 billion for the second quarter of 2026, driven by an $8.32 billion unrealized loss on its digital asset holdings as bitcoin’s price declined. Strategy held 846,000 bitcoin as of June 30, acquired at an average cost of roughly $75,578 per coin.
To bolster its liquidity position, Strategy built a $3.75 billion cash buffer — designated its original USD Reserve — that CFO Andrew Kang said at the time would be enough to meet preferred dividend and interest obligations for over two years. The company also sold approximately $218.4 million of its bitcoin holdings under a monetization program and repurchased portions of its preferred stock at discounts to stated value.
In the week prior, Strategy raised approximately $2 billion through common-stock sales and retired $136.4 million worth of its Stretch preferred shares.
