X Enables US Users to Trade Stocks and Crypto Through Cashtags
Thursday, 17 September 2026, 00:03
A familiar market symbol is becoming a gateway to live charts, broker accounts, and faster decisions—with new concerns about manipulation.
Users of the social network X in the United States can now buy and sell assets directly through their feeds. To make this possible, the platform has expanded the functionality of Cashtags and connected them to partner brokerage firms.
At the initial stage, the service works with Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken, and Coinbase. Through the integration, users can access stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and cryptocurrencies.
How trading through Cashtags works
The Cashtag format originated during the Twitter era. It adds a dollar sign before a stock ticker and helps users find posts about a specific asset. Previously, the tag merely brought discussions together, but it now also leads to trading tools.
Cashtags shorten the distance between a ticker in the feed and the market itself. When a user posts a ticker or clicks on one, they immediately go to the asset’s page, where they can view a real-time chart, discussions about it, and now also place a trade through one of our brokerage partners.

After a supported Cashtag is selected, the screen displays the asset’s current price chart and related posts. The “Trade” button takes users to the website or app of their chosen broker. There, they can sign in to an existing account or register a new one, and then complete the transaction.
The company expects the new feature to connect financial discussions with direct access to the market. Monique Pintarelli, SpaceXAI’s global advertising head, said users would be able to move more quickly from researching and discussing assets to a brokerage platform.
The risk of market manipulation
At the same time, integrating the social network with brokerage services could create additional risks. AI-powered bots, spammers, and other malicious actors could influence audience sentiment by mass-distributing messages in one direction.
Similar campaigns already occur on X, but the ability to move directly from discussing an asset to placing a trade could amplify their consequences. One-sided or manipulative posts could potentially influence not only discussions but also users’ decisions to buy or sell assets.
