Institutional appetite for crypto exchange-traded funds is strengthening again in the U.S., with spot bitcoin products posting a third straight week of net inflows. The latest weekly gains follow the strongest monthly intake for bitcoin ETFs since <a href="https://xpertsstudio.com/important-news-last-night-and-this-morning-september-6/” title=”Important News Last Night and This Morning (September 6″>September 2025, while spot ether funds also maintain positive momentum.
Highlights
- U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs post $986.9 million in net inflows last week, their third consecutive week of gains, led by BlackRock’s IBIT with $691.5 million.
- Trading volume in spot bitcoin ETFs declines to $14.5 billion and spot ether ETF volumes fall to $4.1 billion, despite both reporting their strongest monthly inflows since August and September 2025 respectively.
- Bitcoin trades at $79,951, holding the $80,000 level, as institutional inflows indicate demand recovery ahead of key September 10 jobless claims and September 11 CPI data.
Weekly flows and trading activity
As citing SoSoValue, U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs record $986.9 million in net inflows last week, up from $924.5 million a week earlier and extending their positive run to three consecutive weeks. BlackRock’s IBIT leads the group with $691.5 million in net inflows for the week ended Sept. 4
Trading volume across the spot bitcoin funds totals $14.5 billion last week, down from nearly $19 billion in the previous week. Spot ether ETFs also attract $218.4 million in net inflows last week, marking their third consecutive week of positive flows, while their trading volume declines to $4.1 billion from $6.3 billion a week earlier.
August momentum and market outlook
Both ETF segments build on a strong August. Spot bitcoin ETFs bring in $3.52 billion in monthly net inflows, their largest monthly positive flows since September 2025, while spot ether ETFs add $1.85 billion, their strongest month since August 2025.
Dominick John, analyst at Zeus Research, says sustained ETF inflows suggest institutional capital is steadily rebuilding exposure to bitcoin and creating spot demand rather than leverage-driven speculation. Min Jung, research associate at Presto Research, says the crypto market appears to be seeing a catch-up trade after lagging other risk assets, with strong ETF inflows pointing to renewed institutional demand.
Bitcoin continues to hover around $80,000 after reaching about $81,700 last Thursday, and it trades at $79,951 as of 9:35 p.m. ET Sunday. John says holding $80,000 keeps the market structure constructive and that the next move is likely to be driven by macroeconomic signals, including Sept. 10 jobless claims and Sept. 11 CPI, while Jung says a supportive macro backdrop could extend the rally and hotter inflation remains the key downside risk.
August U.S. jobs and inflation data ahead of the Fed’s September 15–16 meeting were highlighted in our earlier coverage as key drivers of rate expectations. We noted that the stronger-than-expected payrolls report lifted Treasury yields and increased the implied odds of a rate hike, making upcoming CPI and PPI releases the main swing factor for market direction.
