WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Wednesday urged Congress to pass the CLARITY Act during a White House meeting with cryptocurrency and financial industry leaders.
The bill would bring regulation and certainty to an industry known for its volatility and uncertainties.
Financial analysts say congressional approval could raise the value of some cryptocurrencies by 50% within a year.
It also would add to the personal fortune of Trump, whose family has invested heavily in cryptocurrency.
The White House meeting brought together cryptocurrency industry leaders such as Coinbase Chief Executive Brian Armstrong and Robinhood Chief Executive Vlad Tenev, along with government economic agency officials.
“We’re ensuring America remains the undisputed leader, not only in bitcoin and crypto but also technologies like prediction markets, artificial intelligence and much more,” Trump said.
Congress is expected to vote on the CLARITY Act shortly after lawmakers return in September.
Trump said Congress should “take the next step” by approving the bill.
The CLARITY Act is formally known as the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act of 2025. It is designed to establish a federal framework for regulating digital assets.
The bill would divide regulatory authority between the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
The CFTC would yield primary jurisdiction over digital commodities. The SEC would oversee investment contracts for digital assets.
