The US Securities and Exchange Commission has unveiled an “Innovation Exemption” that grants tokenized securities trading platforms conditional regulatory relief for five years. Platforms that meet the requirements will be able to operate tokenized stock trading services without separate designation as exchanges.
Two days after the CLARITY Act stalled in a Senate cloture vote, the SEC issued its “Innovation Exemption,” letting qualifying venues trade tokenized stocks on-chain without registering as exchanges or dealers. Industry experts say the move keeps momentum alive, but warn that agency action can’t replace the durability of statute.
