Michael Saylor moved to shore up confidence in Strategy’s Digital Credit securities on Tuesday, announcingthe company has doubled its STRC repurchase program from $1 billion to $2 billion after already deploying $176 million under the original authorization.
The announcement came alongside a fresh balance sheet update: Strategy now holds 845,050 Bitcoin and $6.5 billion in USD.
“Strategy has repurchased $176M of $STRC and increased the size of its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program from $1.0B to $2.0B. As of 9/7/26, we hold 845,050 $BTC and $6.5B of USD Assets,” Saylor wrote on X.
Why the buyback expansion matters
The STRC repurchase program targets Strategy’s preferred securities, the Digital Credit instruments the company has used to raise capital for Bitcoin purchases.
When those securities trade at a discount, buying them back reduces debt obligations at below-par cost while signaling to credit markets that Strategy is willing to defend the value of its own paper.
Doubling the program from $1 billion to $2 billion sends a clear message: Strategy has both the capacity and the intention to support STRC pricing aggressively.
Having already deployed $176 million under the original program, the expansion gives the company significant additional firepower to stabilize its credit structure.
Balance sheet context
The accompanying figures tell their own story. At 845,050 BTC, Strategy remains the largest corporate Bitcoin holder in the world by a considerable margin, a position it has maintained through a cycle that has tested the conviction of nearly every institutional holder.
The $6.5 billion in USD assets alongside those Bitcoin holdings provides the liquidity buffer that credit investors need to see before extending confidence to the STRC structure.
Critics including Peter Schiff have questioned whether Strategy’s debt mechanics create a dangerous feedback loop as Bitcoin prices fluctuate.
The expanded buyback program and strengthened USD reserves are a direct operational response to that concern, less a rebuttal in words and more one in balance sheet numbers.
