SpaceTrade Technologies has unveiled a new brand identity and headquarters in Lagos as part of a broader strategy to make cryptocurrency transactions more accessible and expand its operations beyond conventional crypto exchange services.

The fintech company unveiled the new identity on Friday at its headquarters in Alaka Estate, Surulere, Lagos, where its management outlined plans to simplify the use of digital assets for everyday transactions while strengthening its focus on education, compliance and security.

Speaking at the press briefing, the Chief Technology Officer and Co-founder of SpaceTrade Technologies, Oluwatobi Odunaiya, said the rebranding was driven by the need to make cryptocurrency easier to understand and use, particularly for people who remain excluded from the digital-asset market because of its perceived complexity.

According to him, the company wants to bridge the gap between owning cryptocurrency and being able to use it for everyday purchases.

“The way people interact with crypto, people want more from crypto than what they currently get,” Odunaiya said.

He noted that users often have to convert their cryptocurrency into fiat currency before they can pay for basic goods and services, a process he said could be cumbersome.

“But imagine having crypto and wanting to buy fuel? The process is long. We are simplifying that,” he said.

Odunaiya said SpaceTrade was introducing solutions designed to allow users to spend digital assets more conveniently, including an offline payment option through a physical card.

“We want people to feel like if you have crypto, I can easily use it. I can easily spend it. It doesn’t have to be more complicated,” he said.

He added that the platform was simplifying several stages of digital-asset transactions, including buying, storing, selling and converting cryptocurrencies into cash or naira, as well as transactions involving other digital assets.

Beyond cryptocurrency exchange, Odunaiya said SpaceTrade was repositioning itself to participate more broadly in the digital-asset ecosystem, including areas such as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

The company also highlighted its efforts to lower the barrier to entry for new users through education.

The Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Frankline Ntah, said users could access the platform by downloading the SpaceTrade application from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, providing their personal information and completing the required verification process using identification such as the Bank Verification Number (BVN) or National Identification Number (NIN).

He said the company had also introduced SpaceTrade Insights, an educational feature within the application designed to help users understand cryptocurrency and digital assets.

“We push out educative content about crypto, so you get to know things that you might not be aware of,” Ntah said.

He explained that the objective was not to require users to become cryptocurrency experts before using the platform, but to provide information that would make digital-asset transactions easier to understand.

“We are offering a service that simplifies it,” he said.

As part of its education and awareness efforts, the company also unveiled an initiative, “Crypto and Everything in Between,” which will cover areas including cryptocurrency exchange, compliance and securities.

Ntah said the initiative would provide an avenue for users and members of the public to learn more about the digital-asset ecosystem and make informed decisions.

On regulation, Odunaiya said SpaceTrade was monitoring and aligning its operations with evolving requirements from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other relevant authorities.

He said regulatory compliance remained an important part of the company’s expansion strategy.

“We are building responsibly towards this to make sure that we and both our customers are transacting safely and in accordance to what the law says,” Odunaiya said.

He added that Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements were mandatory for users of the platform.

On data protection and cybersecurity, Odunaiya said SpaceTrade was currently compliant with the requirements of the Nigerian Data Protection Commission (NDPC)and was working towards obtaining ISO compliance.

“We work closely with our in-house and external data cyber-security experts,” he said, adding that the company had invested in infrastructure to strengthen the security of its platform and conducted periodic audits of its systems.

Ntah also said the platform had introduced two-factor authentication as an additional security measure to help prevent scammers and unauthorised third parties from gaining access to users’ accounts.

The Chief Executive Officer and Founder of SpaceTrade, Emmanuel Amure, said the rebranding was not limited to a change in the company’s colours or logo, but represented a wider repositioning of the business within the Web3 ecosystem.

“It’s not just changing colours or changing logos. We’re coming out with more products,” Amure said.

He said the company was working within the regulatory framework being developed by Nigerian authorities and would continue to expand its offerings as the country’s digital-asset ecosystem evolves.

“We’re ready to expand and try to make crypto trading accessible and easier. That’s what we’re focusing on and developing,” Amure added.

The company said its new direction would focus on simplifying digital-asset transactions while expanding access to products and services designed to make cryptocurrency and other emerging digital assets more usable in everyday life.
