Economist Peter Schiff said on Sunday that AI is a threat to <a href="https://xpertsstudio.com/ray-dalio-backs-bitcoin-as-us-debt-could-spiral-to-60-trillion/” title=”Ray Dalio Backs Bitcoin as US Debt Could Spiral to $60 Trillion”>Bitcoin(CRYPTO: BTC), rather than serving as a positive catalyst for the cryptocurrency.
Schiff Attacks BTC Pumpers’
In an X post, Schiff called out what he saw as attempts by “Bitcoin pumpers” to connect BTC with the AI trade.
“They have it backwards. AI isn’t bullish for Bitcoin; it’s a threat to it,” he added.
Schiff stated that AI threatens Bitcoin by competing for speculative capital, electricity, and data centers, while “powerful” AI could “discover vulnerabilities” in its code, cryptography, or network security.
The Counter-Argument
Q Trader, a BTC maximalist, said, however, that AI represents a greater threat to gold than to Bitcoin. They argued that advanced AI technology could increase gold supply, reducing its scarcity and eventually causing prices to fall.
Will AI Really Threaten Bitcoin?
The impact of AI on cryptocurrency and Bitcoin is the subject of an intense and ongoing debate.
A report by the on-chain analytics firm Chainalysis found that AI-enabled cryptocurrency scams were 4.5 times more profitable than traditional scams in 2025. AI-related scams also showed greater time-weighted efficiency.
However, some platforms have tried to neutralize the AI threat with AI itself.
Binance (CRYPTO: BNB), the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, rolled out more than 24 AI-driven initiatives and over 100 AI models to counter emerging threats. The platform said that more than half of its fraud controls are AI-powered.
Artificial intelligence has also become a major competitor to Bitcoin mining.
A CoinShares report noted that mining revenue is projected to plummet from around 85% of total revenue in early 2025 to less than 20% by the end of 2026 for companies that have secured AI contracts.
MARA Holdings Inc.(NASDAQ:MARA) CEO Fred Thielsaid that investors place limited value on the Bitcoin mining business, but that the company’s expanding focus on energy generation and AI could get it more attention in the future.
Price Action: At the time of writing, BTC was exchanging hands at $77,318, up 0.09% in the last 24 hours, according to data from Benzinga Pro.
