As cryptocurrency adoption continues to grow in South Africa, consumers have more choice than ever when deciding where to buy and sell digital assets. But one often overlooked factor can make a significant difference to the value they receive: fees.
Trading fees can appear small when viewed as a percentage of an individual transaction, and in some cases they aren’t always clearly disclosed upfront. For someone buying or selling crypto regularly, however, those charges accumulate. Every purchase, sale and subsequent trade can mean another fee, gradually eating into the value of a customer’s portfolio.
OVEX is taking a simpler approach.
The South African crypto exchange charges zero trading fees when using Instant Buy and Sell, giving customers a quick and straightforward way to buy and sell digital assets without an additional trading fee being added to each transaction.
For consumers, understanding exactly what a transaction will cost before committing is becoming increasingly important. Fee structures can vary considerably between platforms, with some charging different percentages depending on transaction type, trading volume or other criteria.
In some cases, the full cost of a transaction only becomes apparent towards the end of the process. A fee that appears insignificant on a single trade can become considerably more meaningful when repeated over months or years.
Small fees add up
Consider an investor who regularly buys cryptocurrency as part of a long-term investment strategy. Every time they make a purchase, a percentage-based trading fee reduces the amount available to invest.
The same applies when selling.
For an occasional investor, a small fee may seem negligible at the time. But as assets appreciate, so does the value of what was lost to fees – that 0.001 BTC fee from several years ago is now worth significantly more today.
This makes fees more than a small administrative detail. They are one of the factors consumers should consider when choosing where to buy and sell cryptocurrency.
OVEX believes customers should have a simple answer to the question: “How much am I being charged to make this trade?”
With OVEX’s Instant Buy and Sell, that answer is zero.

Why fee transparency matters
As South Africa’s cryptocurrency market matures, consumers are becoming increasingly sophisticated about the platforms they use.
Security, reliability, customer service and ease of use all matter. But price remains an important part of that decision.
Consumers should look beyond promotional offers and consider what they are actually charged when they transact. A platform may appear inexpensive when looking at a single transaction, but regular trading means those individual charges are repeated again and again.
Making crypto trading simpler
OVEX’s Instant Buy and Sell function is designed to remove unnecessary complexity from the process.
Customers select the cryptocurrency they want to buy or sell, enter the amount they want to transact and review the transaction before confirming it.
There is no separate OVEX trading fee added to the Instant Buy or Sell transaction.
The approach reflects a broader philosophy at OVEX: buying and selling cryptocurrency should be straightforward, and customers should be able to understand the cost of using a platform without navigating complicated fee structures.
For consumers evaluating a new crypto exchange, or reconsidering whether their existing provider still meets their needs, fees are worth paying attention to.
As competition in South Africa’s crypto industry increases, consumers have greater freedom to compare platforms and choose providers based on the service and value they receive.
OVEX wants to make that choice simpler.
Zero trading fees on Instant Buy and Sell. No complicated calculations. Just a straightforward way to buy and sell crypto.
Crypto trading carries risk, including loss of capital. Prices are volatile and past performance does not predict future results. This article does not give financial advice nor is it an invitation to trade. OVEX (Pty) Ltd is an authorised FSP (53922) and NCR credit provider (NCRCP15552).
