MoonPay Lets Users Buy Bitcoin in ChatGPT

MoonPay launched a dedicated application inside ChatGPT Apps on May 23 that allows users to generate cryptocurrency purchase links without leaving OpenAI’s chatbot.

The app supports Bitcoin (BTC), XRP, Solana (SOL), and USDC. Users can ask ChatGPT about a cryptocurrency and then request a purchase for a set dollar amount. The chatbot generatesa MoonPay checkout link. That link redirects the user to MoonPay’s website to complete Know Your Customer (KYC) verification and connect a wallet. Users who have already completed KYC can sign in with an existing account and pay using a previously linked method without repeating the process.

MoonPay joins Kraken, OKX, CryptoAudit, and RealOpen as crypto-related apps in the ChatGPT store. Most of those apps allow users to query prices and blockchain data. MoonPay’s app is built specifically to enable actual purchases. #MoonPay #ChatGPT

AI Chatbots Become New Crypto On-Ramps

MoonPay Blockchain Engineer and Product Lead Kevin Arifin said the app was built to fill a gap he observed in how people use ChatGPT for financial research. “It’s always been surprising to me that there hasn’t been an on-ramp where you could buy crypto within ChatGPT,” Arifin told Decrypt. He described the experience as similar to having a broker nearby that educates users about an asset without making financial recommendations.

The actual purchase is completed through a standard checkout flow. Arifin said the longer-term direction is for AI models to take more direct actions rather than simply generating checkout links.

The ChatGPT app is part of a wider push by MoonPay into AI-driven products. Earlier in May 2026, the company acquired AI trading startup Dawn Labs and released Dawn CLI, a copilot that converts plain-English instructions into automated prediction market strategies. MoonPay also launched the MoonAgents Card, a virtual Mastercard that lets AI agents spend stablecoins directly from crypto wallets at online merchants. #Crypto #AI

Arifin noted that users working exclusively inside ChatGPT remain within OpenAI’s ecosystem and are limited to the interfaces it chooses to expose. He said emerging AI clients that allow agents to run locally and interact directly with a user’s device are an important next step. “These apps, whether it’s ChatGPT, Claude, they’re the new front door of the internet,” Arifin said. He added that multi-turn research conversations inside chatbots make them a meaningful entry point for new crypto users.
