Actor and retired professional wrestler John Cena once left social media users puzzled after casually posting a Bitcoin(CRYPTO: BTC) image on Instagram with zero context.
Cena’s Enigmatic Post
Back on Aug. 31, 2017, Cena dropped a stock photo of Bitcoin, and it racked up almost 50,000 likes and more than 500 comments.
However, without a caption, hashtags, or any accompanying context, users were left confused about the intent behind the post.
But that’s to be expected.
Cena’s bio clearly states, “These images will be posted without explanation, for your interpretation. Enjoy.” So yes, the post is open to multiple interpretations.
A Windfall in 9 Years
On the day Cena shared the image, Bitcoin was trading at $4,703 apiece. Let’s say you were influenced by the “You Can’t See Me” guy’s bullish posts and decided to invest $100 in BTC yourself.
It was only the beginning of a bull run—BTC would surge 306% over the next four months, ultimately reaching $19,000 by December.
Fast forward to August 2026, Bitcoin sits much higher, despite a steep drawdown from its peaks. It’s exchanging hands at $77,373.
Had you resisted the urge to sell your BTC, your original investment would have grown to $1,645 today, delivering a massive 1,545% return in less than a decade.
Did Cena Miss out on Early BTC Investment?
While Cena has occasionally referenced Bitcoin, concrete details on his investments are still hard to come by.
During a post-Monday Night Raw show press conference in January 2025, Cena was asked if he had any advice that he would offer his younger self.
The former wrestler joked that if he could mess with the space-time continuum, he’d probably go back and throw some money into Bitcoin.
