Ireland unveiled a State-backed Savings and Investment Account (SIA) scheme launching in 2027 that will allow retail investors to hold shares and ETFs with a tax-free threshold, a low flat tax above it and removal of the eight-year deemed disposal rule; tax-free thresholds and caps will be announced on October 6 and the plan aims to unlock over €175 billion in low-yield household deposits. The roadmap explicitly excludes cryptocurrency and derivatives, a regulatory decision likely to slow crypto adoption in tax-advantaged retail channels and favor traditional equity/ETF flows over DeFi, token launches, CEX/DEX fundraising and other crypto-related investment opportunities.
