Vitalik says Ethereum’s progress without his involvement signals ecosystem maturity

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said at Network State Conference 2026 that he sees it as important whether the Ethereum Foundation and community members can continue developing the ecosystem without his involvement, adding that more people are taking the lead without waiting for his comments and that this is a positive sign of maturity. He also stressed that constant public attention is mentally draining and said decentralization does not mean the disappearance of leaders, but an increase from one leader to many, adding that Ethereum is moving in that direction.
