The UK tax authority, HMRC, released its first cryptocurrency capital gains data, showing 240 people reported gains of more than £1 million ($2.5 million) in the 2024-25 fiscal year. Their combined capital gains totaled £717 million ($953.6 million), CoinDesk reported.
A total of 17,600 people reported £1.38 billion ($1.84 billion) in cryptocurrency gains during the period, with about 90% identified as men. HMRC also collected an additional £168 million ($223.4 million) in capital gains tax in 2024-25 as it stepped up regulatory enforcement.
