The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a civil forfeiture complaint targeting $61 million in proceeds from Iranian black-market oil sales allegedly laundered through the Binance platform, according to Unfolded. U.S. prosecutors said the cryptocurrency accounts, linked to two Chinese companies, were used to transfer more than $1.5 billion in illicit oil revenue to Iran’s military and terrorist proxy groups. Prosecutors said they identified the sanctions-evasion network through detailed blockchain-based fund tracing. The move suggests Binance remains exposed to sanctions compliance risk after previously paying a large fine over alleged sanctions violations.
