South Korea’s Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hyoung-il, who also serves as minister of economy and finance, reiterated that the government will make a carefully considered decision on the planned January implementation of virtual asset taxation next year after gathering views from the industry, experts and lawmakers, Edaily reported.
Speaking at a comprehensive parliamentary audit session of the Planning and Finance Committee at the National Assembly in Seoul on Oct. 22, Lee said multiple lawmakers had raised concerns during the previous audit and Lee had said at the time that the government would hear more from experts and the industry before making a decision. Lee added that, in that context, the first vice minister had listened to industry views.
Lee had also reaffirmed during the G20 finance ministers meeting on Oct. 19 that the government would go through additional consultations on virtual asset taxation, according to the report.
