Solana has applied the first step on its testnet to lower account storage costs per byte. Anza, a validator client for the Solana network, said the lamports required per byte of account data fell about 9% to 6,333 from 6,960.
Anza said the five-stage upgrade ultimately aims to lower the figure to 696, reducing storage costs by 90%. Each stage will be rolled out sequentially after checks confirm there are no issues from increased network state, and safeguards are in place to restore the previous level if problems emerge.
