Ripple has submitted a formal comment letter backing the U.S. SEC’s crypto rule proposal, Regulation Crypto Assets.
Ripple Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty said on X that the SEC has clear authority under current law to introduce the proposal. Alderoty said U.S. regulators have enforced rules through case-by-case actions targeting individual crypto assets, pushing parts of the industry overseas. He added that the digital asset market needs a consistent regulatory framework and argued that what qualifies as a security is the investment contract, not the token itself. In Alderoty’s view, whether something is a security should be determined by the promises an issuer made to investors and when those obligations end, rather than by a subjective assessment of decentralization.
