OKX founder Star Xu criticized Binance founder Changpeng Zhao for describing Binance’s compensation of affected users after the Oct. 10, 2025 crypto market crash as a goodwill gesture.
In a post on X, Xu said the sell-off affected user assets worth tens of billions of dollars, caused heavy financial losses across the industry, and was followed by a prolonged market downturn that damaged both investor assets and confidence. Xu added that Zhao recently said in an interview Binance had voluntarily compensated affected users by about $800 million despite having no legal obligation to do so. Still, Xu argued it was inappropriate to frame the episode as a case highlighting Binance’s voluntary compensation and good intentions while many users suffered major losses and the industry was still struggling to restore trust.
