A National Assembly petition calling for a two-year delay to digital-asset taxation has drawn more than 32,000 signatures, Digital Asset reported. The petition needs 50,000 signatures to be referred to a relevant standing committee, leaving 18,000 more endorsements needed by Sept. 20.
The petition argues for a two-year delay because implementing the tax could sharply reduce exchange revenue, which in turn could lead to a steep drop in corporate tax receipts. A separate petition calling for the abolition of the tax was previously referred to a standing committee after surpassing 50,000 signatures in May.
The government is currently pushing for digital-asset taxation to proceed as scheduled in January 2027, while the People Power Party opposes the move, citing inadequate infrastructure.
