A public petition posted on South Korea’s National Assembly petition platform calling for a two-year delay to crypto taxation has drawn more than 5,000 supporters. The petition, which was registered on Aug. 17, argues that taxing crypto would amount to a policy that reduces taxes that can actually be collected rather than increasing revenue, while pointing to a sharp drop in corporate tax payments made by exchanges including Dunamu. It also stresses that most investors are sitting on losses and that forcing ahead with taxation while domestic crypto-related companies are struggling would alienate young voters and deprive them of opportunities. The signature period began on Aug. 21 and runs through Sept. 20.
