IonQ, a publicly listed U.S. quantum computing company, unveiled its 256-qubit quantum computer, “Superion 256,” on Sept. 8, though it does not pose a meaningful threat to Bitcoin security at its current level, Decrypt reported.
According to the outlet, stealing BTC with a quantum computer by exploiting exposed public keys would require far more advanced technology capable of stable computation with error correction, and a 256-qubit system does not mean it can break 256-bit security. IonQ has begun taking orders for Superion 256 and plans to start shipments next year.
