Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon urged a delay to virtual asset taxation, questioning whether authorities should rush to begin what Han described as a cowardly form of taxation, News1 reported.
In a Facebook post on Sept. 15, Han said the virtual asset tax whose delay Han had helped secure while serving as People Power Party leader is now imminent. Han said much has happened over the past two years, but criticism that authorities are still unprepared for taxation remains valid. Han added that if income earned without labor is treated as unearned income, there is no reason real estate taxation should differ from stock taxation, and no reason income from South Korean stocks should be treated differently from income from U.S. stocks or crypto assets.
