The FBI has been holding a conference focused on cryptocurrency-related crime for the past nine years, CoinDesk reported. The FBI crypto symposium brings together law enforcement officers, overseas investigators and crypto security specialists to exchange information on crypto crime.
This year’s event was held in Texas in September, according to CoinDesk. Attendees included representatives from blockchain forensics firms such as Chainalysis and TRM Labs, as well as officials from the U.S. Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, or FinCEN.
Discussions at this year’s meeting covered the illicit use of cryptocurrency by cartels and for terrorist financing, cyber fraud, child sexual abuse material, human trafficking and wrench attacks. Participants also reviewed new hacking methods, North Korean activity and ways for the industry and law enforcement agencies to share information.
