Core DAO plans an emergency hard fork: validators to receive excess CORE rewards
The blockchain project Core DAO announced the coordinated implementation of an emergency hard fork due to validators receiving CORE rewards exceeding the blockchain’s intended issuance. Core DAO stated that the situation has been controlled, and malicious validators can no longer obtain excess rewards; the upgrade will not roll back the network or revoke confirmed transactions.
Core DAO previously indicated that the rewards accumulated by a small number of validators were significantly higher than the issuance set by the protocol, and the incident only involved reward issuance, with user assets remaining secure. Coinbase, Bithumb, Coinone, Bitget, and LBank had restricted CORE deposits, withdrawals, or transfers. Core DAO has not disclosed the amount of excess issued CORE, the duration of the related activities, or whether additional tokens have entered circulation, nor has it explained the cause of the vulnerability, stating that a technical review report will be released.
