Crypto-based AI inference service providers processed only about 1% of OpenRouter’s total token throughput, according to a Blockworks Advisory analysis.
In a post on X, Blockworks said OpenRouter, a platform that provides access to multiple AI models, handled an average of 2.19 trillion tokens per day over the past month. By comparison, seven crypto-based providers including Venice, Phala and Chutes processed an average of 21.1 billion tokens a day. It added that the total market capitalization of all liquid crypto AI-related tokens stands at $24.9 billion, below the $30.9 billion valuation of AI infrastructure company Crusoe alone.
Blockworks added the crypto AI inference market remains small but is growing. It said it is still unclear whether crypto can secure a distinct competitive edge in that market, although ongoing experimentation and innovation are promising.
