Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas said BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF, IBIT, has slightly outperformed Vanguard’s S&P 500 ETF, VOO, since its January 2024 launch. According to a chart Balchunas shared on X, total returns from January 2024 to now were 71.34% for IBIT and 66.06% for VOO, a gap of 5.28 percentage points. Annualized returns were 22.62% and 21.17%, respectively. Balchunas said IBIT’s climb to returns above 70% was like a roller coaster, while VOO’s path was relatively smooth, adding that IBIT’s lead was somewhat surprising given market conditions from October last year through July this year.
