Ethereum layer-two network Aztec has unveiled a roadmap aimed at implementing post-quantum cryptography, or PQC, by the end of 2030, The Defiant reported.
According to the report, Aztec plans to offer enhanced developer libraries in early 2027, allowing developers to build more secure on-chain design patterns. In mid-2027, the project plans to select specific replacement signature, encryption and proof systems. Once the cryptographic approach is chosen, Aztec will restructure its internal mechanisms, including updating network addresses, key derivation protocols, account and validator authentication, and establishing a clear migration path for existing private state. The roadmap’s main goal is to defend against HNDL attacks, in which attackers steal and store currently encrypted data and decrypt it later as quantum computing advances.
