Andreessen Horowitz, or a16z, and the DeFi Education Fund asked the U.S. SEC to exclude decentralized exchanges from exchange registration requirements, according to Crypto Briefing.
In a joint letter to SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce, the groups requested a Safe Harbor framework for certain decentralized exchanges. They argued protocols that do not custody user funds, automatically execute trades, and allow anyone to participate without an administrator do not perform functions fundamentally identical to the New York Stock Exchange. Applying the same rules to such protocols would create a mismatch between regulations and software that operates more like public infrastructure, the letter said.
