Trader DonAlt, known for accurately calling XRP’s 2024-2025 rally, has identified Ethereum as the clearest technical chart in the cryptocurrency market. Ethereum has gained more than 30% since he began accumulating near $1,878 on August 13, and is now consolidating above the critical $2,400 breakout level. The trader views this pattern as a potential indicator for the broader altcoin market, with $2,815.68 as the next major resistance. Institutional flows have reinforced the move, with $220.77 million in spot ETH ETF inflows during the late-August rally. Meanwhile, XRP has pulled back to $1.39 after a 43.7% weekly surge, though ETF demand remains robust with $110.49 million in weekly inflows. Ethereum’s ability to hold support will likely shape near-term sentiment across digital assets.
Key Elements

A widely followed cryptocurrency trader who correctly anticipated XRP’s dramatic surge in 2024 is now positioning Ethereum as the clearest technical signal in the digital asset space, with the token’s ability to hold a key support level likely to dictate sentiment across the broader altcoin market.
DonAlt, who built his reputation by identifying XRP’s rally from below $1 to local highs above $3.60, said Ethereum’s daily chart currently shows the “cleanest chart in crypto right now.” The second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization has been consolidating directly above a major breakout zone near $2,400, a pattern he described as “exactly what you’d like to see” following a decisive move higher.
“How ETH trades is probably gonna be indicative of the rest of the market,” he wrote in a post on X on August 30, alongside a chart showing the consolidation range.
The trader began publicly accumulating Ethereum on August 13 at approximately $1,878. Since then, the asset has advanced more than 30%, adding roughly $600 in value before entering its current sideways phase. On August 30, ETH was trading between $2,455 and $2,460, having absorbed a 2.7% decline two days earlier without surrendering the breakout level.
Key Technical Levels for Ethereum
| Level | Price | Role |
|---|---|---|
| DonAlt’s entry | $1,878 | Position established Aug. 13 |
| Primary support | $2,400 | Must hold to validate breakout |
| Accumulation range | $2,454–$2,492 | Current consolidation zone |
| Next resistance | $2,815.68 | Medium-term upside target |
Note: A move from the upper end of the current range to the resistance level would represent an additional gain of roughly 14%.
The technical setup has been reinforced by institutional demand. Ethereum’s late-August rally coincided with $220.77 million in spot ETF inflows providing spot-market support beyond purely technical positioning. That combination of chart structure and capital flows has strengthened the case that the breakout has staying power
DonAlt has outlined $4,000 as a potential longer-term target if Ethereum maintains its broader upward structure. However, he indicated that taking profits near $3,000 would be a reasonable strategy given the substantial gain already recorded from his entry point.
The trader’s shift in focus carries added weight because of his track record with XRP. He identified that token’s late-2024 breakout while it was still trading below $1, mapping out targets at $1.20, $2.90, and eventually $6.90. XRP subsequently reached approximately $3.66 in July 2025, after which DonAlt said his original thesis had largely run its course.
XRP has shown renewed strength recently, rising 43.7% in the week through August 26 amid surging Korean trading volume and accelerating ETF inflows, before retreating to around $1.39 from an intraday peak near $1.70. Despite the pullback, institutional demand has remained resilient. US spot XRP ETFs attracted $110.49 million in the week ending August 28—their strongest weekly inflow of 2026—bringing cumulative inflows to roughly $1.66 billion. Separately, 21Shares’ TOXR XRP ETF product is approaching $150 million in assets under management.
The contrast between the two assets is instructive. While XRP’s momentum has cooled following its sharp advance, Ethereum’s measured consolidation above a confirmed breakout suggests buyers are absorbing profit-taking without ceding control. Declining volatility and continued volume accumulation during the sideways movement indicate the market is preparing for its next directional move.
For traders watching the broader digital asset landscape, the immediate question is whether Ethereum can preserve the $2,400 support. A decisive loss of that level would invalidate the breakout and could dampen risk appetite across assets that typically follow ETH’s lead. Holding above it keeps the $2,815.68 resistance in play and, in DonAlt’s assessment, would provide an important signal for altcoins more broadly.
