Ethereum(ETH) is seeing nearly $1 billion in visible accumulation as exchange reserves fall and derivatives leverage remains below earlier 2026 peaks.
Key Points:
- ETH buying has accelerated through whale activity and $889.8 million in net purchases by BlackRock’s ETHA ETF over eight trading days.
- Exchange reserves have fallen to 14.93 million ETH, while the Coinbase Premium Index has turned positive near 0.029.
- Open interest remains near $14.5 billion, leaving the latest demand wave more spot-driven than leverage-led.
Ethereum Accumulation
On-chain tracker Lookonchainsaid a whale wallet recently spent $13.55 million to buy 5,425 ETH at about $2,498, while the X account TedPillowshighlighted another address receiving 40,000 ETH worth $100.09 million from Binance.
Institutional demand has also been consistent. BlackRock’s ETHA ETF recorded $889.8 million in net purchases across eight consecutive trading days, putting the cited whale and ETF buying at more than $900 million before the separate Binance transfer.
Data from CryptoQuant show ETH reserves on exchanges have fallen to 14.93 million ETH after declining through most of the year, reducing the amount readily available on trading venues. That leaves fewer coins immediately available for sale.
ETH Leverage
The Coinbase Premium Index has moved back above zero to about 0.029 after spending several months in negative territory, a shift that points to stronger U.S. spot demand relative to other exchanges. Leverage has not followed.
ETH open interest stands near $14.5 billion, well below its earlier 2026 highs, suggesting the current accumulation phase is being driven more by spot purchases than leveraged bets.
A spot-led move can leave the market less exposed to forced liquidations than a rally built mainly on leverage, although that setup could change if open interest begins rising faster than ETH’s price.
That balance can change quickly. Exchange reserves have trended lower for most of 2026, while the Coinbase premium spent several months below zero before turning positive, and open interest remains beneath its earlier yearly peaks.
