Stand With Crypto, an advocacy group established by American crypto exchange Coinbase that has since drawn more than 3 million online U.S. members, announced 32 more lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives it’s throwing its support behind in this year’s midterm elections.
Among the bipartisan list are prominent leaders in Congress’ most recent crypto push, including House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson and Bryan Steil, the Republican who leads the digital assets subcommittee within the House Financial Services Committee.
But if the political tide continues to shift toward Democrats, that party could end up with the majority (and the committee chairs) in the House after the November elections. And Stand With Crypto, which openly grades political candidates on their crypto support, is also endorsing such well-placed Democrats as Jim Costa, who ranks highly in the House Agriculture Committee’s minority party and could be a contender for the chairmanship.
“The midterms come at a key inflection point for crypto policy in Washington, D.C.,” said Mason Lynaugh, executive director of Stand With Crypto, in a statement. “As candidates from both parties are trying to reach voters outside of more traditional constituencies, they overlook crypto voters at their own peril.”
The list includes many others who are members of the committees that are likely to see crypto action in the next Congress, including the tax-oriented Ways and Means Committee, and the panels on financial services and agriculture.
And it also gives nods to lawmakers who have directly pitched in on crypto legislation, such as Steven Horsford, the Nevada Democrat who introduced the bipartisan Digital Asset Protection, Accountability, Regulation, Innovation, Taxation, and Yields (PARITY) Act this year; Bill Huizenga, the Michigan Republican who cosponsored the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act and the House’s Digital Asset Market Clarity Act; Warren Davidson, a Republican from OhioWarren Davidson who introduced the <a href="https://xpertsstudio.com/bitcoin-logs-best-week-since-2023-as-etf-inflows-hit-1-92-billion/” title=”Bitcoin Logs Best Week Since 2023 as ETF Inflows Hit $1.92 Billion”>Bitcoin for America Act last year; and Ritchie Torres, a New York Democrat and frequent crypto advocate, who last year reintroduced the BRCA alongside Republican Emmer.
The group said it’ll follow up with Senate picks and candidates who aren’t incumbents closer to the general election.
