Crypto Business & Institutional Finance News
Bitcoin Suisse is cutting up to half its Swiss workforce as it moves key functions overseas. The Zug-based crypto financial services firm plans to eliminate up to 60 of its approximately 120 Swiss positions. The roles being cut are primarily in back-office and administrative functions.
CEO and co-founder Andrej Majcen confirmedthe plans to Swiss financial publication Finews, which first reported the restructuring on Sept. 11. He said the decision was driven by cost and was part of a wider international growth strategy. He was clear that it was not a reaction to difficult conditions in the crypto market.
“In Bratislava and Vietnam, we can provide these services at significantly lower cost,” Majcen told Finews. The company already operates a hub in Bratislava. It plans to establish a new location in Vietnam within the next few years.
Copenhagen Closes as Vietnam Hub Opens
Bitcoin Suisse employs around 200 people globally. It has more than $3 billion in digital assets undercustody. The company offerscrypto trading, custody, staking, and lending services. As part of the same restructuring, it is also closing its IT development site in Copenhagen.
Majcen said Bitcoin Suisse wants to grow beyond its crypto services roots. The company is targeting high-net-worth individuals, family offices, asset managers, and institutional clients. It announced this strategic shift in June 2026 when it said it was expanding beyond its Swiss home market. The goal is to build a global wealth and asset management business.
The restructuring gives the company a leaner cost base in Switzerland. Savings from the offshore shift are expected to be redirected toward building the wealth management operation. The move reflects a broader trend among crypto firms seeking to compete for institutional capital by lowering operational costs.

Licenses Secured Across Europe, Bermuda and the Middle East
Bitcoin Suisse has been expanding its regulatory footprint alongside the restructuring. Its Liechtenstein subsidiary received authorization under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework in June 2026. That authorization allows it to serve clients across selected European Economic Area markets. The company also secured a license in Bermuda earlier this year.
In July 2026, Bitcoin Suisse’s Middle East subsidiary received full regulatory approval in Abu Dhabi. The combination of cost reduction at home and licensing expansion abroad gives the firm the structure it needs to pursue wealth management clients globally. Those clients expect both regulatory credibility and an international footprint, two things Bitcoin Suisse is actively building.
