Bitcoin Suisse Cuts Up to 60 Swiss Jobs, Closes Copenhagen IT Site

Bitcoin Suisse plans to cut up to 60 Swiss jobs amid a restructuring. Copenhagen IT site to close; software and back-office functions shifted to Bratislava and Vietnam.

    Strategic justification vs cost-only justification.

“However, the spokesperson declined to specify the amount of the cost savings.”

“He indicated that running the affected services in Bratislava and Vietnam would be “significantly less expensive””

    Zug job cuts

Bitcoin Suisse said it is cutting up to 60 of its 120 staff in Switzerland as it reorganises, with the reductions due to take effect after a consultation period lasting until September 20.

“cutting up to 60 of its 120 staff in Switzerland”

    Reuters

Reuters reported the Zug-based firm said its “Software development and back-office capabilities will increasingly be consolidated in our international hubs” as part of the shift.

The company also said it is closing its IT development site in Copenhagen, while keeping its headquarters in Zug as its main center for wealth management.

Outside Switzerland, Reuters said Bitcoin Suisse has an international hub in Bratislava and aims to establish another in Vietnam, and it also has offices in Liechtenstein, Abu Dhabi and Bermuda.

    Majcen frames strategy

In comments cited by Finews, Group CEO and co-founder Andrej Majcen said cost was a key factor, telling the outlet that operating the affected services in Bratislava and Vietnam would be “significantly less expensive” than keeping them in Switzerland.

Majcen also framed the restructuring as strategy rather than a response to market conditions, saying it was “not a response to weakness in the crypto market” and instead part of Bitcoin Suisse’s plan to expand internationally and build a broader wealth and asset management business.

The Reuters report said the firm confirmed the job-cut plan after Swiss outlet Finews disclosed the reorganisation, and it said the staff reductions were due to take effect after the consultation period ending on September 20.

Other coverage tied the changes to a broader international buildout, with KuCoin saying the firm expects to relocate up to 60 roles out of roughly 120 positions based in Switzerland, concentrating the move on back-office and administrative functions.

    Licenses and next steps

The restructuring comes alongside regulatory expansion, with Reuters saying Bitcoin Suisse has offices in Liechtenstein, Abu Dhabi and Bermuda, and with TradingView adding that it secured licenses in Liechtenstein and Bermuda earlier this year and received full regulatory approval in Abu Dhabi in July.

“Employees in Zug were informed of the plans at a town hall meeting on Friday morning”

    finews

Finews reported that in Liechtenstein the company’s European subsidiary obtained a MiCAR licence, and in Bermuda it received licences for digital asset and investment activities, while its Middle Eastern subsidiary obtained full regulatory approval from the financial regulator in Abu Dhabi.

Finews also said employees in Zug were informed of the plans at a town hall meeting on Friday morning, and it reported that the exact number of jobs ultimately eliminated would become clear once a ten-day consultation process was completed.

The same Finews account said the first layoffs will take effect before the end of this year, while Reuters said the company’s client-facing wealth management activities are expected to remain centered in Switzerland.
