Bitcoin’s trading around $77,755, up just 1.1% in 24 hours. Markets basically frozen. Crypto market cap sitting at $2.7 trillion, totally flat. Everyone’s staring at Friday’s jobs report, waiting to see if it validates Fed rate cut bets or changes the narrative.
ADP payrolls landed soft. Only 38,000 jobs added in August versus 47,000 forecast. That’s bad enough to make traders think the Fed cuts rates soon. When Fed cuts, risk assets catch bids. Bitcoin likes that scenario. Problem is nobody wants to get aggressive before Friday confirms anything.
Economists expect Friday’s nonfarm payrolls to show 53,000 jobs added. Unemployment staying at 4.1%. If that number misses weak like ADP did, rate cuts get locked in. If it comes in hot, the whole thing reverses and Bitcoin gets sold.
Bitcoin dominance climbing to 59.7%, highest in a while. That means altcoins are getting destroyed. Ethereum sitting at $2,383, Solana around $100. Nothing’s happening in the crypto market except BTC consolidating while everything else bleeds.
On-chain data’s mixed but not screaming panic. About 68% of Bitcoin’s circulating supply is in profit. Short-term holder cost basis near $71,000 means recent buyers are still green. That’s healthy. Problem is institutional demand dried up. ETF flows that were steady in August stopped showing up. Money went from “buying every dip” to “wait and see.”
Vikram Subburaj from Giottus noted ETF buyers aren’t providing the one-directional support anymore. That changes everything. When institutional money’s behind you, rallies feel different. When it disappears, you’re just retail traders and trapped longs fighting over direction.
Support sits at $76,200-$76,500. Anyone long from higher prices is sweating that level. Resistance up at $77,700-$78,300 where we’re basically sitting right now. Break resistance clean and maybe you get to $80K. Hit support and people start asking if $72K is coming.
Fed probability for a rate move sitting around 66%. That’s not conviction. That’s coin-flip territory. Nobody’s positioning hard in either direction because the odds don’t justify it. Wait three days and get clarity, or risk getting stopped out on noise.
Subburaj’s advice: avoid leverage, accumulate with discipline in smaller pieces. That’s the smart play when markets are this uncertain. One jobs report could wreck a leveraged position instantly.
Bitcoin dominance going up while Bitcoin price stays flat is actually a negative setup. It means money leaving alts isn’t flowing to BTC, it’s flowing to stablecoins and cash. People getting defensive, not bullish. That’s the real signal Friday’s jobs report matters so much – it’s the permission to get back in.
