Bitcoin falls as profit-taking begins

Bitcoin (BTC) fell toward the $77,000 level on Monday following a powerful rally of more than 23% last week, its largest weekly gain since mid-March 2023.
The rally was driven by the US Treasury’s announcement that it would double its debt buyback operations, alongside continued institutional demand, with spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recording $1.92 billion in weekly inflows, the highest since October 2025.
On-chain trading data suggests that investors may have begun taking profits as Bitcoin approaches the $80,000 level, potentially leading to short-term consolidation or a temporary pullback in the price.
Profit-taking near $80,000 stalls the rally
CryptoQuant data showed that Bitcoin holders realized $1.72 billion in profits on Friday, the highest amount since late November 2024, after last week’s 23% rally pushed many investors back into profit.
Such elevated levels of profit-taking typically point to the possibility of short-term consolidation or a price correction as traders begin selling part of their holdings to lock in gains.
Despite the profit-taking, spot demand for Bitcoin has moved back into positive territory after remaining negative since late February, signaling an improvement in net buying demand.
Bitcoin ETFs post their highest weekly inflows this year
Institutional demand helped support the cryptocurrency’s latest rally. Data from SoSoValue showed that spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted $1.92 billion in inflows last week, their highest weekly total since the beginning of the year and the largest since mid-October 2025.
If these inflows continue this week, Bitcoin could receive additional support to extend its advance, despite the possibility of temporary pressure from profit-taking near the $80,000 level.
