Following weeks of muted trading action‚ Bitcoin’s resurgence is changing short-term outlooks as the largest cryptocurrency climbed above $79,000 to its highest level since late May. The cryptocurrency’s latest ascent added over $11,000 to its value in a period of almost 48 hours.
BTC▲$62,630.00 consolidated on several occasions after failing to break above the $65,000 level. The coin pulled back to the $62,000-$63,000 range before sharply reversing. Bitcoin shot past the $70,000 mark and breached the $71,000-$72,000 resistance. It then saw another round of buying that pushed it towards the $79,000 range.
This is about an 18% move in less than 48 hours, in a market that has largely traded within a much tighter range than that in the past. To put this in perspective, according to data from CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin moved back to an approximate $75,000 level following this spike, indicating that most of the spike was not immediately reversed.
The rally coincided with the US Treasury’s announcement that it would at least double the maximum amount of liquidity support buybacks in longer-dated nominal securities as the US Treasury moved to raise the cap from $2 billion to at least $4 billion for each operation from 9 September to 4 November. This initially pushed long-term yields lower and benefited risk assets, including Bitcoin.
Crypto policy developments in Washington added a tailwind, including one where President Donald Trump, in a White House speech with senior digital-asset executives, urged Congress to pass a more balanced version of the CLARITY Act. The goal of the legislation is to provide more regulatory clarity for the cryptocurrency markets, though the bill still faces obstacles in the Senate.
Ether followed Bitcoin, climbing from about $1,900 to the $2,400 range, while XRP▲$1.13 held the psychologically important $1 level and traded as much as 30% above that level throughout the week.
According to analyst Ali Martinez, Bitcoin’s breakout from the pattern has confirmed the beginning of a new bullish trend. According to him, BTC has strong support between the $62,000 and $63,000 marks, and minor resistance above. Martinez considered $75,733 as a key level, and a sustainable break under would take the supply zone to the next level at $83,300.
This technical analysis prompted Martinez to repeat his view that the Bitcoin bull market had begun, and analysts have likewise cited $100,000 as a price target. Anthony Scaramucci and Standard Chartered have also cited $100,000, but have different timelines; the investment bank has forecasted that Bitcoin will reach the price target later this year.
Meanwhile, crypto analyst Crypto Patel pointed to a time that Bitcoin spiked by about 1000%. The scenario, he suggested, seemed similar enough to forecast the likelihood of a similar price increase for Bitcoin. However, it was strictly a pattern-based projection, and BTC is not obliged to repeat itself. The next test of the market’s resolve will be holding these gains.
