Bitcoin and ethereum prices today, Tuesday, September 1, 2026: Crypto prices falling as inflation concerns persist

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) opened at $78,559.11 on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, 1.1% higher than Monday’s opening price. As of 8:19 a.m. ET this morning, the price of bitcoin fell to $77,945.97.

Ethereum (ETH-USD) opened at$2,467.13 on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, up 2% from Monday’s opening price. The price of ethereum edged lower this morning to $2,454.23 as of 8:19 a.m. ET.

Crypto, gold, and silver prices are all following a similar pattern this morning: stronger openings than yesterday are giving way as mounting expectations that the Fed will raise rates later this month weigh on prices.

According to the CME Group’s FedWatch tool, there’s currently a 66.4% chance the Fed raises rates by 25 basis points later this month, and a 33.6% expectation that it will leave rates unchanged. Just last week, the opposite was true: economists estimated a 60.4% chance the Fed would leave rates unchanged and a 39.6% chance rates would rise.

The Fed knows they have work to do to control price growth, but the ongoing war in Iran is making their job extremely difficult. The first U.S. attacks against Iran since July this weekend and recent threats of additional strikes by President Trump have sent oil prices rising along with rate hike expectations.

Higher rates limit crypto price growth since bitcoin and ethereum don’t pay interest to investors.

Bitcoin, ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies are rapidly evolving.Follow the latest developments from Yahoo Finance and others here.

What is Ethereum and how does it work?

Ethereum is the blockchain, while ether is the cryptocurrency that runs on it. When people say they’re “buying ethereum,” they’re usually buying ETH — the digital asset used to run applications and store value.

Some investors trade short-term, others accumulate their holdings slowly, and still others focus on earning a yield by locking up their ETH to help run the network — a process known as staking.

    How to buy Ethereum

Ether, the native cryptocurrency used on the Ethereum platform, remains significantly more volatile than the S&P 500 for many investors. But it’s no longer a moonshot — it’s a foundational piece of a modern digital portfolio.

Here’s how to start investing in ethereum.

    • Step 1: Choose your Ethereum investment strategy

    • Step 2: Pick the right platform

    • Step 3: Complete identity verification (KYC)

    • Step 4: Fund your Ethereum purchase

    • Step 6: Securing your investment
