After reports of data leaks involving a Coinbase contractor as well as Bithumb, Mirae Asset Global Investments and Daishin Securities, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, better known as CZ, urged users to strengthen their security.
In a post on X, CZ said exposed names, email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses and transaction records are typically exploited for phishing, SIM swapping and social engineering attacks. While users cannot fully prevent personal data from being leaked, CZ said they can still reduce the risk of harm.
He recommended using different email addresses and passwords for each exchange, using passkeys or authentication apps instead of SMS, and setting withdrawal address whitelists. If a leak is confirmed, CZ added users should change passwords, log out of existing sessions, revoke API keys and review recent withdrawal records.
