Nine cryptocurrency firms have launched the Quantum Alliance to develop blockchain security standards against potential quantum-computing attacks, CoinDesk reported.
Participants include Hacken, the Midnight Foundation founded by Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson, QANplatform, and Post-Quantum Labs. The group said an estimated 6.4 million BTC, or 30.2% of Bitcoin’s total supply, could become vulnerable to future quantum-computing attacks through exposed public keys. That figure includes 1.1 million BTC believed to belong to Satoshi Nakamoto. The alliance plans to publish quantum-resistant security tests and migration guidelines for existing blockchains, while noting no quantum computer currently exists that can break Bitcoin’s cryptographic system.
